I shared my morning skincare routine, so it only felt right to share my full morning routine with you all too. My routine isn’t anything crazy or groundbreaking, but I do make a point of having one. I’ve experimented over the years trying different wake-up times, workout times, when I let myself check my email, etc., and I think it’s important to do that because I feel pretty good about where I’m at now. Who knows, maybe this will change tomorrow, but for now, here’s my current morning routine!
6:45 AM – Wake Up
If you’ve been following me for a while now you might know that for a year back in 2018-2019 I was part of the 5 am wakeup gang, but let me tell you, that was NOT the life for me. As much as I still wish that was natural to my circadian rhythm, and I’d love nothing more than to be a rise-before-sun type of girly… NOPE. It left me tired, hungry all day, and in a bad fucking mood. Now that’s just me personally. If you’re an early morning riser, I see you. And I applaud you. But I, unfortunately, am not that. So yes, I wake up every day at around 6:45/7:00 am. Sort of late but it works for me. I do not do well with less than 8-9 hours of sleep so FYI I go to bed at around 10 pm every night.
And do I jolt out of bed every morning you ask? Another HELL no. I snooze for approx 15 (sometimes even 30) minutes because I find easing into the day is so much better for my cortisol levels. I cannot be waking up in a state of shock, it just doesn’t work for me. So after 15-30 minutes of just fluttering my eyes open and laying in bed looking around, I will gently get up.
7:15 AM- Make the Bed… always, and without fail.
~7:15-7:30 AM – 1) Scrape tongue and Brush the Chops
Scraping your tongue takes most of the bacteria out of your mouth for better breath and so you don’t wash down all of the nasty bacteria that you’ve accumulated in your mouth throughout the night into your system when you have your first AM beverage. (PS – if you don’t tongue scrape, we cannot be friends, I’m sorry)
2) Put on My Workout Clothes
~7:30-7:45 AM – Drink 1 liter of water
Nothing groundbreaking here and I honestly cannot with people who go off about drinking water and hydrating. Like yes, we get it, we all need water to survive… thank you Karen for letting us know! Lol. So no gold medal is needed here just reporting that I drink 1 L of water every morning. Gets the juices flowing if you know what I mean, and it satisfies the main bulk of my daily hydration needs so I don’t get overly parched later on in the day.
*** In the past, I used to take this time between my water and workout to sit at the kitchen counter with a cup of coffee and either read a book or scroll through emails but I have recently stopped doing this because I would just end up sitting for two hours and inevitably starting to work, responding to e-mails while simultaneously stressing/having anxiety about not having done my workout and/or showered for the day yet. Was not working.***
7:45- 8:45 AM- Workout
So I skip the above-mentioned counter sitting/procrastinating, which was killing my productivity, and I move swiftly and right into my at-home workout. More about my workout routine here.
9:00- 10:00 AM- Get Ready for the Day
I will usually have my coffee at this point and then I shower, do my makeup, and get dressed while always listening to a podcast (yes, even while in the shower). I have a handful of go-to’s that I love that you can check out here.
10:00 AM- Start Work for the Day!
Ok, I know it’s a lot later of a start time than most people, but with my job as a real estate agent, I’m working 6 and sometimes even 7 days per week, so I intentionally allow myself a little extra rest and self-care/me time in the morning without rushing on the days that I can. With exceptions to the rule of course, but for the most part, this schedule works for me just as long as I am making the most of, and being as productive as I can be, for the rest of my day from 10 am-7 pm. Obviously do what works for you and your job/lifestyle! But just sharing what works for me currently. Like I said, you know I like to change up my stuff/routines every so often, so I’ll report back when I make any changes but for now, here we are!
xx Farrah
