For summer 2022, I’m finding that fashion-wise I’m leaning into comfort over anything else. This is somewhat new to me as comfort hasn’t always been my number one priority. What can I say, I’m fun and usually prioritize the whole look itself vs. the coziness 🙂
For comfort-forward work days, this means long, loose-fitting trousers/pants, light oversized blazers, and appropriately-sized crop tops to balance the oversized look of everything else that I’m wearing. I’m still loving neutral, monochromatic tones of beige, khaki, camel, and espresso, which I think give a feeling of intentionality to the look.
While I typically love a good heel, lately it’s been a lot of flats and slides. I’ve been on a mission to find a few perfect pairs of sandals and slides—both chunky and flat—that can read “easy and casual” but also “elevated and professional”. On days where I don’t have to be as “buttoned up” per se, pairing oversized pants + blazer/look with Nike Dunks is hip and for some reason just really complements the overall “lewk” but makes it more edgy and fun.
Speaking of Dunks, my favorite new pair come in this “bone” colorway (lol the term colorway always makes me laugh for some reason because it sounds so serious), and then also these more retro Dunks in a fun but still subdued “vintage green”. I will say that Dunks are kind of hard to come by these days and can be pricey if they’re purchased aftermarket. But the truth is, any cute sneaker can complete this easy, go-to look.
As far as all other occasions like weekends, brunches, dinners, baby showers, parties (day or night), and even work too, I have recently become obsessed with the brand Reformation again for the sheer amount of shapes and styles of clothing that they have to offer at a mid-range price point. Bonus points for the brand now being more size-inclusive, as well as sustainable. Right now I’m particularly into their dresses because my summer vibe could be described as “fun and flirty and pulled together without trying too hard” and their dresses are delivering all of that for me at the moment. Even if not a Reformation piece, this girly but relaxed vibe is what I’m opting for because it’s a lot less work to throw on one cute dress than to have to think of all of the different pairings of outfit possibilities before deciding what to wear. No patience for that.
When it comes to patterns and colors, I kind of surprised myself this season a bit. I was off floral prints for a long time but am back on them now because I’m really embracing this summer season. Coming out of the pandemic, I’m ready to put my sweats away and dress in a way that says let’s hit the streets of Rome or sail Lake Como (but still comfort-forward of course). Even if all I’m actually doing is going to work or to a baby shower in LA. Basically, let’s embody summer no matter where we are because that’s a vibe. Personally, I like a midi dress that hits mid-shin with short or cap sleeves that’s a little fitted in the waist but loose around the legs and with a minimal or no leg slit. Not to get too specific or anything 🙂 But that’s just me. Go with whatever YOU feel most comfortable in or feel is most flattering for YOU. Add a cute sandal, slide, or sneaker et voila—an easy breezy look that screams you’re living your best hot girl summer 😎
PS – Loving a pulled-back messy bun, little hoops, and sunnies to complete these looks in an effortlessly chic way.
