Let’s be honest, the holidays are magical, but they can also be a loooot. Between year-end work deadlines, travel plans, family gatherings, and everything in between, it’s easy to find yourself running on empty before the season even starts. That’s why I always make it a point to slow down and reset before the chaos begins. Think of it as a pre-holiday recharge so when things do get busy, you’re showing up calm, centered, and ready to actually enjoy it!
Here are five self-care practices to try now before the holiday rush kicks in…
1. Schedule a “no plans” day
Block out a full day with no errands, no events, and no obligations. Let yourself wake up without an alarm, move slowly, and do whatever feels good in the moment. It’s the kind of rest we rarely give ourselves but all desperately need.
2. Move your body (for your mind)
You know I’m all about moving your body for mental health, and that doesn’t have to mean an intense workout! Go for a walk, stretch, take a yoga class, or hike your favorite trail. Moving your body is one of the fastest ways to ease stress and boost your mood, and it’s a simple way to keep your energy balanced during the busy months ahead.
3. Declutter your space
A clear space truly equals a clear mind. Before the holiday decor takes over, take some time to organize the spaces you use most: your desk, closet, or even your car. You’ll feel lighter instantly, and it’s one less thing to think about once life gets hectic.
4. Unplug for a night
Try a full evening without your phone, TV, or laptop. Light a candle, read, journal, or take a long bath. It’s a small reset that helps you reconnect with yourself and actually quiet the mental noise. Read more about my tips for a digital detox here!
5. Reflect and set intentions
Take a few minutes to check in with yourself before the season starts. What do you want to prioritize this year—more rest, more connection, more joy? Setting that intention early can help you stay grounded when things start moving fast.
The holidays will always come with a little chaos, but your mindset doesn’t have to follow! A little prep now goes a long way, and trust me, you’ll thank yourself later when you’re sipping cocoa or red wine by the tree instead of stressing over your to-do list. 😉
xx, Farrah
